Directions to the Old Cope Cemetery
on Strong Fork, in Breathitt Co. KY

From Lexington, KY:

  • Take I-64 east to the Combs Mountain Parkway.
  • Take the Combs Mountain Parkway south to the Campton (highway 15) exit.
  • Take highway 15 south.
  • Approx. 2 miles after entering Breathitt Co. you will come to the town of Vancleve at highway 205 (there is a fire station on the north east corner).
  • Continue on 15 roughly a mile south of 205, just past milemarker 23, and you'll come to 1812. Even though 1812 heads east from 15, the exit on to 1812 is on the west (right) side of 15.
  • Turn right on to 1812 and follow it for approx. 4.5 miles (over a large concrete bridge known as Blanton Bridge, past 378) to 540 (which is just before going over another bridge).
  • Turn left onto 540 (also known as Strong Fork Rd.) and go approx. 1.1 to 1.2 miles. The cemetery is on top of a big hill on the left side of the road. On either side of the hill are homes, the first home you come to is where the owner of the cemetery lives (Mr. King). Also on either side of the hill, easily seen from the road, are other more recent graves.
